Dreams

All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.
Walt Disney

The creative works of Disney have long been an inspiration for me. My earliest memories were filled with the beautiful animations of Disney films. Jungle Book may have been my first movie, followed by Snow White, Mary Poppins, Cinderella, Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang, and so many others. I found it significant when searching for topics on Dreams that my eyes fell almost immediately on this one by Walt Disney himself. Why is it that we give up on our Dreams? So often we, as adults, forget our sleeping dreams and never bother about daydreams. Who has time for daydreams?? Yet these are the very things that often inspire greatness in others, or spur some towards much needed change in themselves and the world around them. How much power do we really have to change or influence our world? A difficult question to ponder much less find a hard answer to. We do have power over what we choose to think about on a daily basis and this can have a positive ripple effect on those around us. All of us have at one time or another been uplifted by the simple kindness from a stranger. Dreams can serve us this way by directing our thoughts and activities toward a higher goal for our real selves, the one that gets lost in the daily grind. Ten minutes of dreaming can go a long way toward inner peace of mind. It is a muscle, so to speak, of the child-like spirit inside us, the one that still finds wonder in the world. If we can exercise it we can increase this muscle, we can increase its positive influence in our lives.

Fast Food Gingerbred House

O.K. Everyone has gathered together for the holidays and settled in, had some food, watched some movies and Christmas specials, unwrapped some gifts, now what? Here is a simple idea that can be done using things that you probably already have around the house.
What you will need:
Graham Crackers
Scissors
Wax Paper
Candy Sandwich Bags
2 cans of vanilla frosting (or make your own)
and a piece of cardboard
Have no fear! This project has been done twice already, both times under an hour from start to finish! First, wrap the wax paper around the cardboard or poster board and tape it on the back. Next, spread vanilla frosting all over the wax paper with a spatula or knife. Prop graham crackers up long-ways and spread frosting on them to "glue" them in place. (You can figure this out by yourself but it is more fun with two or more people.) Make a box with the graham crackers and put two more whole graham crackers on the top. Place a plastic sandwich bag inside out into a coffee cup and put frosting in it. Pick up bag with frosting and squish the frosting down towards one corner. Cut a tiny corner off the bag and you have a pastry decorator tool. Squeeze decorative squiggles of frosting down the sides and over the roof of your creation. Make doors, windows, icicles, whatever. Decorate the "yard" with various candies. I like fruit bars because I can cut them in half and make pavers and window boxes. Don't forget the candy cane "trees" that mostly won't stand up. (Oh. well, guess you'll have to eat them.) This is a great family or group project that is entertaining for the creators and the spectators/supervisors. It is fun to make and fun to watch being created. If it screws up, don't worry, you can always just eat it!

Which comes first, idea or inspiration?
I defer to one major dude:

I'm painting an idea not an ideal. Basically I'm trying to paint a structured painting full of controlled, and therefore potent, emotion.
